The opening of the Ethical Fashion Show and Green Showroom fashion shows took place on Monday 19th January at the “Postbahnhof” in Berlin, in the presence of German Development Minister, Dr. Gerd Müller and the Managing Director of Messe Frankfurt, Detlef Braun. The event was attended by numerous exhibitors, visitors and members of the international media. In his capacity as President of the Bremen Cotton Exchange and at the invitation of Minister Dr. Müller, Ernst Grimmelt took part in the opening ceremony, which was followed by a tour of the exhibition.
The President took the opportunity to inform the industry and the media about the Cotton Exchange and its image, as well as its tasks and goals. Since the end of last year, the Exchange has been a member of the Textile Alliance initiated by Dr Müller.
“The need for information on sustainable cotton production is growing rapidly”, said Mr Grimmelt. Against this background, the Bremen Cotton Exchange sees it as its task to regularly inform its members and the public with objective, factual reports and, above all, the latest information on the trends in global cotton trade. This concerns mainly prices, availability on the procurement markets and the progress in cultivation methods in terms of environmental, social and economic sustainability. “Cotton is one of the most important agricultural products and is cultivated in about 80 countries worldwide. 250 million people live from cotton, of which a large part are in developing and emerging countries,” said Grimmelt. About 65 percent of cotton production is provided by small farmers.
“Together with you, Minister Müller, we would like to achieve a great deal within the Textile Alliance and represent the field of cotton growing competently and in the truest sense of the word sustainably. For all of us, the Alliance is “work in progress” and the textile chain is one of the most complex structures in a globalised and networked economy” emphasized Mr Grimmelt at the Berlin exhibition.Category: Allgemein
