The Bremen Cotton Exchange offers a webinar on bitcoin and blockchain basics on September 24th. The seminar will be held by the blockchain expert Leonard Pust within the project ‘Blockchain for GMO mediation in Organic Cotton’. In this research project, the Bremen Cotton Exchange examines the application and implementation of blockchains in the cotton supply chain together with the Bremerhaven-based analytics company Impetus Bioscience since 2018. It is one aim to secure the proof of GM-free organic cotton within the whole supply chain.

The webinar consists of two lectures: ‘Bitcoin Basics’ as well as ‘Blockchain Basics’, including examples from the textile industry. The first lecture on bitcoin basics will give an overview on the whole bitcoin network. The technological concepts that are the basis for a bitcoin will be introduced and the formation of bitcoins as well as the system security explained. The second lecture will focus on blockchain technology. The basics as well as the advantages and disadvantages of a transaction chain that is secured in a decentralized system will be discussed. Furthermore, appropriate examples of applying the blockchain for instance in the supply chain of the textile industry will be represented.

The webinar takes place on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. and will last 90 minutes. You will receive further information as well as your login details after registration. Participation is free-of-charge for members of the Bremen Cotton Exchange; non-members have to pay a service charge of 45 euros. The webinar language will be German.
