In the face of logistic problems and record cotton prices – what does the industry expect in the coming year?

2021 was a challenging year for everyone involved in the textile value chain. Constantly rising raw material prices could not reduce demand. The logistic problems to this extent were new to all of us. Scarce container availability, unavailable or severely restricted shipping routes, but also the lack of truck drivers have had a massive impact on global supply chains. Unfortunately, this will probably also be a problem in 2022, as the provision of new ships or the training of professional drivers require a longer lead time.

The prices of raw materials and energy will continue to be influenced by good global demand, although the available quantities, at least for cotton, should increase again over the course of the year. However, the problem of disrupted supply chains also means that there is a chance for local production to become more relevant. The topic of sustainability will continue to gain in importance.
